The following defendants were convicted of felony offenses and sentenced this week in Catawba County Criminal Superior Court.
* Samuel John Hull, 18, of Claremont, was convicted of five counts of felony breaking or entering and four counts of felony larceny and was sentenced to 5-6 months in the Division of Adult Correction.
A tractor-trailer driver died in a Thursday rear-end collision with another tractor-trailer on Interstate 40 near Claremont, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Highway patrol officials say traffic was backed up in a construction zone on I-40 East when a tractor-trailer failed to slow down and hit another tractor-trailer.

The Hickory Crawdads' bats exploded early and often, helping lift them to a 7-1 victory against the Lakewood Blueclaws on Thursday in New Jersey.
Hickory (36-30) scored five runs in the third inning to pull ahead, and added one run each in the fourth and ninth innings to pull away for the victory.
