Funeral set for mother, child killed in crash

Funeral arrangements are set for a mother and 13-month-old daughter killed Wednesday morning in a crash on N.C. 150 in Catawba County.

Tisa Michelle Strickland Dellinger, 26, and her daughter, Payton Michelle Dellinger, died when their Pontiac car struck a tractor-trailer carrying 30,000 pounds of concrete. The crash happened near the highway's intersection with N.C. 16.

Lady Tigers reflect on season, await Falcons

Through its successes and struggles this season, the Fred T. Foard softball team persevered to reach the 3A state softball championship.

The Lady Tigers (25-4) meet the C.B. Aycock Falcons (29-2) in the first game of a best-of-three series at Raleigh's Walnut Creek Softball Complex on Friday.

Carroll's 5 RBIs lifts Post 48 to third-straight win

Behind a five-RBI game by outfielder Phillip Carroll, Hickory Post 48 picked up its third-straight win to start to the season, topping Rutherford County Post 423, 10-5.

Ky'Rawn Whitfield added two RBIs for Post 48 (3-0). Davis Hanvey scored three runs on a 3-for-5 day, while teammate Jason Setzer also scored a pair of runs and hit a triple on his 2-for-4 performance.

Crawdads win fourth straight, top Power, 3-2

For the second-straight day, the Hickory Crawdads won a baseball game by the score of 3-2, knocking off the West Virginia Power in their return to L.P. Frans Stadium on Thursday.

The win was Hickory's fourth-straight overall, which includes a road sweep Monday through Wednesday against the Delmarva Shorebirds.
