Frances Louise Gilbert Hall Stapleton, age 72, of Conover passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:00-9:45 a.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton prior to the graveside service.

Hilton won't seek school board re-election

A group of long-time Catawba County Schools educators who served and led together are now leaving together.

Catawba County Schools Superintendent Glenn Barger is leaving for the second time,and after a career as an educator and two terms on the school board, CCS Board Chair Joyce Spencer announced Tuesday she won't seek re-election.

Abernethy, president of Abingdon Senior Housing Services, developed Abingdon Glen Village in Hickory, an active adult town home community.
