Frances Louise Gilbert Hall Stapleton, age 72, of Conover passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:00-9:45 a.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton prior to the graveside service.

The heat is on in Catawba County, and for the first time in several years, temperatures in Newton, Conover and other communities in the area are expected to reach 100 degrees.
Shuford Abernethy is going home — sort of — and he’s being a good neighbor about it.
Abernethy, president of Abingdon Senior Housing Services, developed Abingdon Glen Village in Hickory, an active adult town home community.
While Abernethy and his wife were visiting in Boston several years ago, they visited Beacon Hill Village.
