ELECTION: Marriage amendment results breakdown

North Carolina's constitutional marriage amendment gained strong support in Catawba County.

Of the 35,230 ballots cast in the county Tuesday, there were 35,009 marriage amendment votes. Nearly 26,000 people (74.22%) of county voters approved the amendment. About 9,000 (25.78%) voted against it.

ELECTION: County commissioners results breakdown

Catawba County commissioner incumbents Dan Hunsucker and Barbara Beatty secured spots in November's general election with primary victories Tuesday.

Hunsucker and Beatty, who both gained more votes than GOP challengers Steve Graves and Kevin Spiva, now face Democrat Steve Hunt, who was unopposed in Tuesday's primary.

ELECTION: House District 10 results breakdown

Incumbent Rep. Patrick McHenry, a Republican, and Democratic N.C. Rep. Patsy Keever won primaries in U.S. House District 10.

Unofficial results of the race in the 10th congressional district in Catawba County:

Patrick McHenry 14,639 votes (73.49%)
Ken Fortenberry 3,917 votes (19.66%)
Don Peterson 1,363 votes (6.84%)

PREP NOTEBOOK: N-C ousted from dual playoffs

Newton-Conover's attempt to three-peat as 2A dual team state champions ended Tuesday with a 6-0 loss to Shelby, the top-ranked tennis team in the state.

The Red Devils, who finish the season with a 16-5 record, battled a number of injuries to players, which didn't make trying to knock off the Golden Lions an easy task.

Crawdads final game with Kannapolis rained out

May 9, 2012

Tuesday's minor league baseball game between the Hickory Crawdads and Kannapolis Intimidators was postponed due to inclement weather.

A make-up date has not been announced, but will be made for a later date.

The Crawdads return home Thursday for the first game of a four-game tilt against the Savannah Sand Gnats. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
