'Dads comeback falls short against Greensboro, 8-4

After falling behind 8-0, the Hickory Crawdads attempted to come back in their game against the Greensboro Grasshoppers.

Hickory scored four runs in the fifth, seventh and eight innings, but weren't able to make up the deficit, dropping the first road game of the series to Greensboro on Wednesday, 8-4.

New school nearly complete

Newton-Conover's new middle school facility will be completed in the next few weeks, district leaders said Wednesday.

"I'd say it's 95 percent completed now, the whole project," said Newton-Conover City Schools (NCCS) board member Jim Stockner. "It looks like we're running right on schedule."

Police investigate possible murder, suicide

Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a possible connection between the deaths of a boyfriend and girlfriend.

On Monday afternoon, Burke County authorities discovered the body of Randy Cook at his home at 6570 Peyronel St. in Connelly Springs.

Authorities believe Cook committed suicide.

McHenry stops in Conover

Woman crashes after dodging police

A New Hampshire woman is in jail after leading local authorities on a high-speed chase down Interstate 40, colliding with officers and wrecking her car.

State troopers say Carla Maltais was traveling down I-40 in the eastbound direction about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when officers tried to pull her car over on the suspicion she was driving under the influence.
