Bandys pitcher Hunter Harvey, the 2012 Catawba Valley 2A baseball player of the year, continues his growth during a stellar junior season.
Harvey is hoping to lead the Trojans (16-7) past the opening round of the 2A playoffs for the first time in three seasons when Bandys travels to West Stokes (20-3) on Friday.
The St. Stephens baseball team lost its third-straight 3A first-round playoff game, falling to Crest on Thursday, 13-8.
Tied 7-7 in the fifth inning, Crest score four runs, including a two-RBI single by Brock Melton, to pull away for good. Melton led the Chargers with four RBIs on a 4-for-4 hitting performance on the day.
The Hickory Crawdads fell 7-2 to the Savannah Sand Gnats in their home return game from a lengthy seven-game road tilt.
First baseman Brian Harris led the Sand Gnats (21-12) with three RBIs on a 2-for-3 hitting performance from the plate.
Trever Adams drove in the lone RBI for Hickory (18-13).
