Renaissance Man Finds Respite in Making Dolls

Louis Nunnery is somewhat of a Renaissance man with a thirst for knowledge. He savors life with an eyes-wide-open intensity.

Nunnery served in the Navy, which took him to many ports all over the world.

Nunnery is an artist — his paintings range from the surrealism of Dali to the Baroque style of the 17th century.

Gingrich visits Conover

Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich spoke with Conover residents on Thursday in what is expected to be one of his final campaign stops before he shuts down his White House bid.

Gingrich spoke to a standing-room-only crowd at Sidewalk Café, addressing everything from popular political issues, to President Barack Obama, to likely GOP nominee Mitt Romney.

Catawba County arrests, incidents

The Catawba County Sheriff's Office reported the following incidents and arrests this week.

Arrests

* Rodney Adam Stanus, 45, of Hickory, was arrested on a charge of unauthorized use of conveyance and criminal damage to property (vandalism). He was held in the Catawba County Detention Center on a $1,000 unsecured bond.

I am 21 years old. I went through 13 years of school in Catawba County Schools, plus two more at CVCC. I now attend Appalachian State.

Through all my years of school, history has shown me that groups of people have always fought for equal rights.
