Shots fired at Newton club

April 9, 2012

A bar fight at a popular Newton nightclub escalated into gunfire early Sunday morning on the north side of the city.

Police are trying to identify the suspect who fired shots outside of Club Senorial in Newton about 2:30 a.m. Sunday and fled the scene before officers arrived.

County health rating declines

When it comes to overall health, Catawba County’s citizens rank just outside the top 25 healthiest in North Carolina, according to an annual health ranking released this month.

Catawba County ranked 29th in health outcomes and 30th in health factors out of the state’s 100 counties in an annual “Roadmaps to Health” study released April 3.

Maiden woman faces drug charges

A Maiden woman was arrested on drug charges Sunday night after authorities caught her hiding in the bathroom of a mobile home.

CORNELIUS — Tracy Adams won the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Southern Open on Saturday on Lake Norman, finishing with a three-day catch of 45 pounds, 6 ounces.

Watson wins Masters playoff over Oosthuizen

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The rarest shot in golf can happen any time Bubba Watson has a golf club in hands.

Watson was so deep in the woods late Sunday afternoon that he couldn't even see where he was going. With his golf ball nestled on a bed of pine needles, he hit a gap wedge that shot out toward the fairway and hooked some 40 yards and onto the elevated green.
