Catawba County commissioners adopted a resolution this week to support the state's proposed constitutional marriage amendment.
The amendment — which states that the only legally recognized union in North Carolina is marriage between one man and one woman —is on the state's primary election ballot this spring.
Commissioners voted 3-2 to approve the resolution in support of the amendment.
Neil Kenneth Houston, 62, of Claremont, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington. The Houston family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremation in Conover.

Many people say they missed Newton Police Department officer Evaleene Fowler for the nearly three months she was off the streets this year.
Fowler was walking across "A" Street on Friday, Jan. 13, when she was hit by a Mustang. She was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center with injuries to her left leg and hip.

April 17 incidents
* Someone broke into a vehicle at the Interstate 40 westbound rest area in Claremont. A suspect stole $555 worth of goods, including a handbag, wallet, credit and debit cards, an N.C. drivers license and a Verizon wireless cell phone.
