December 16th
The CVCC men's basketball team made it 2-0 at the Wake Tech Classic with a 87-80 victory against Central Carolina Community College on Sunday.
Isaiah Cuthbertson led CVCC (9-4) with a 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Jalen Cannady chipped in 13 points and 10 boards.
The next game for the Bucs is Jan. 6 on the road against Johnston Community College.

On a fittingly glum, misty afternoon, the San Diego Chargers' slim playoff hopes were extinguished by Mike Tolbert, Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.
Although realistically eliminated weeks ago, the punchless Bolts finally got the mathematical heave-ho in a 31-7 loss Sunday.
The game was played before thousands of empty seats, and the crowd at times seemed too indifferent to boo.

Behind 20 points from Glenn Davis and Aaron Afflalo, the Orlando Magic handed the Bobcats their 11th consecutive defeat Saturday at Time Warner Cable Arena.
The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team picked up a huge win Saturday, knocking off Sandhills Community College 84-80 during the first day of the Wake Tech Classic.
Entering Saturday's game, Sandhills Community College was ranked third among Div. III National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) teams.
The pairings for both the 26th Catawba Valley Classic, as well as the People's Bank Holiday Clash, have been released.
The Catawba Valley Classic will once again be held at Catawba Valley Community College's Tarlton Complex and Hickory High School.
The People's Bank Holiday Clash, which was held at Bandys High School last season, will take place at Lincolnton High School this year.

The St. Stephens boys basketball team improved to 7-0 on the season Friday with a victory against Newton-Conover.
In girls basketball action, the Lady Red Devils pulled ahead early en route to a double-digit victory against the Lady Indians.

The Wolves knocked off the Blue Devils on Friday in Lincolnton.
Dakota Painter led Maiden (0-6) with 12 points, while Ricky Taylor added 11 points.
Alonzo Mobley scored a game-high 19 points for Lincolnton (2-3), while D.J. Cunningham added 16 points.

Newton residents Wanda Mitchell and Johnathan Hall won $100 in Hometown Christmas bucks by supporting locally-owned businesses in the area.
INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine recently recognized Catawba Valley Community College with the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award for its efforts to embrace diversity and inclusion in its faculty, staff, students and suppliers.
CVCC was one of only five community colleges in the country, and the only one in North Carolina, to receive the award.
Catawba County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with Lincoln County Narcotics Division, arrested Jason Richard Dickerson, 31, of 3442 Fostall Lane, Maiden on Sunday, Dec. 9. Dickerson was charged with seven counts of Contempt of Court (Perjury) violations and 11 counts of various Felony possession and drug trafficking charges.
