Bernice Robinson Caldwell, 86, of Maiden passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. Burke Mortuary in Newton is serving the Caldwell family.
Mary K. George, Catawba County Assistant Planning Director, has been named Outstanding Contributor To Agriculture in Catawba County for 2012. The award, which is presently annually by the Hickory Kiwanis Club as a part of Farm-City Week activities, was presented to George during the annual Farm-City Week banquet in Newton on Nov. 20, 2012.
Two Newton residents were arrested on Monday, Nov. 26 when Narcotics Investigators with the Catawba County Sheriff's Office followed up on an anonymous tip.
The tip reported that methamphetamine was being manufactured at a residence located at 3148 Carmel Ridge Dr. in Newton, while children were present inside.
The Fred T. Foard and Bunker Hill high school wrestling teams collided Tuesday in an early season tri-match held by the Tigers.
The match also included SouthLake Christian Academy, of Huntersville.
