The St. Stephens soccer team picked up a crucial victory against Watauga in double overtime on Wednesday, 2-1.
Andrew Barton and Tommy Vo each netted goals for Saint (13-6-2, 8-2-2), while Luke Bruce assisted on Vo's goal.
By virtue of the Indians' win, St. Stephens breaks a tie with Watauga (15-3-3, 8-2-2) to claim second place outright in the Northwestern 3A/4A.
Carolina Panthers linebacker Jon Beason is out for the rest of the season after the team placed him on injured reserve on Wednesday.
Beason had been suffered from knee and shoulder ailments. He is scheduled to have have surgery on his left knee next week.
Salisbury had been a pain in the sides of the Maiden tennis team for two of the past three seasons entering the second round of the dual team playoffs.
That trend continued on Tuesday.
The Lady Hornets (18-2) swept doubles and singles competition, eliminating Maiden (18-2) from the tennis postseason, 9-0.
Tuesday marked second round playoff games in 2A and 3A volleyball.

The Hickory soccer team celebrated 11 of its seniors on Monday, and sent them off the home field in style.
The Red Tornadoes (21-1, 10-1) knocked off rival St. Stephens, 2-1, in a â€śBattle of Hickoryâ€ť on the soccer field.

Richard Xiong scored three goals to lead the Bears to the conference victory against the Wildcats.
