CULLOWHEE — Logan Hallock completed the first 20 passes of his collegiate career, passing for two touchdowns in Appalachian State's 38-27 victory over Western Carolina on Saturday.
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association released its brackets for the football playoffs, which start Friday.
Below are the pairings for Catawba County schools (in italics) and other schools in the Catawba Valley 2A and Northwestern 3A/4A conferences:

Marquis Pope and the Newton-Conover football team made sure it would get a piece of the final Catawba Valley 2A football title.
The Red Devils (8-3, 6-1) blew out winless West Caldwell in Lenoir on Friday, 56-6.

Quarterback Anthony Toscano threw two touchdown passes to Brian Spade and three other Trojans scored rushing touchdowns to help Bandys knock off Bunker Hill, 45-14, in Claremont on Friday.
Toscano tossed both of his touchdowns to Spade to open the first and second halfs, respectively, connecting from 24 yards out in the first quarter and 63 yards away in the third quarter.
