JV FOOTBALL ROUND-UP: Thursday's area scores

Jayvee football season continued on Thursday with four match ups featuring all seven Catawba County football squads.

Below are scores from the county and others from the surrounding areas:

Newton-Conover 28, West Caldwell 14 (N-C finishes 9-0, wins conference)

PREP NOTEBOOK: Indians, Blue Devils eliminated

The Maiden and St. Stephens volleyball teams had their seasons ended on Thursday in the third round of the state playoffs.

Down 2-1 in their match with West Henderson (25-3), the Lady Indians (24-2) battled deep into the fourth set to stay alive, but eventually fell 33-31 to drop the match and have their season ended.

Construction continues Thursday, Oct. 24 on the Newton Depot Southeastern Narrow Gauge and Shortline Museum. The construction of the museum will complete phase two of a three part project at the Newton Depot.

Morning accident involves two N.C. state vehicles

Conover Police Department officer A.R. Williams investigates a two-vehicle accident at Thornburg Drive and I-40. The accident delayed motorists Wednesday morning when Cynthia Harmon in a state-owned van, turned in front of Justin Shannon in a N.C. DMV License and Theft cruiser.
