Maine overpowers Appalachian State 34-12

BOONE, N.C. (AP) — Warren Smith threw for three touchdowns and Maine held Appalachian State to 3 rushing yards in a 34-12 win Saturday in the second round of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.

The Black Bears (9-3) dominated the ground game. Pushaun Brown rushed for 111 yards on 24 carries, including a 31-yard score, and David Hood romped 54 yards for a TD to finish with 88 yards on four carries.

Indians squeeze by Bears on hardcourt

Tied 39-39 entering the fourth quarter, the St. Stephens boys basketball team grinded out a 54-45 road victory against Bunker Hill on Friday.

Jordan James scored 19 points and Kerigan Farley pitched in 10 points to lead the Indians (2-2).

For Bunker Hill (0-4), Jason Setzer and Jordan McGinnis scored 10 points each.

St. Stephens played and up and down game, taking an early 17-11 lead before trailing at halftime, 33-29.

The Bears took their halftime lead thanks in part to six three-point baskets in the opening half, four of which came from Setzer and Colton Chapman.

Bandys 82, North Lincoln 65

Taylor Sigmon scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds, leading Bandys (4-0) to the win against the Lady Knights.

Jesse and Madi Story each scored 16 points for the Lady Trojans, as well.

Bandys completed 19-of-25 free throw opportunities.

North Lincoln's Lauren Armstrong scored a game-high 21 points.

Fred T. Foard 58, West Lincoln 30

The Lady Tigers improved to 3-1 on the season with a victory over the Lady Rebels.
