Newton man dies after stabbing

A Newton man was killed in Lincolnton on Friday night when an altercation ended in a stabbing.

Lincoln County sheriff's deputies found Donald Lee Hoyle Jr., 31, of Newton, stabbed when they responded to a call about 9:20 p.m. at 346 Grandview Lane in Lincolnton. Hoyle was on the ground in front of a mobile home, according to the sheriff's office.

Detective Lt. Tim Johnson of the sheriff's office Major Crimes Unit said Hoyle was stabbed with a sharp object in the chest area. Hoyle was transported to Carolinas Medical Center's Lincoln campus, where he died.
