A Conover man was robbed at gunpoint Sunday in his home.
Joshua James Hampton, 22, of Icard, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon after Catawba County sheriff's deputies said he went to an acquaintance's home and robbed him.
Jamie Sullivan, 23, of Conover, was at his home in the 2700 block of Section House Road on Sunday about 3:20 p.m. when Hampton arrived at Sullivan's house, said Catawba County Chief Deputy Coy Reid.
Conley Leroy Dagenhart, 79, of Conover, passed away Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley in Newton. Burke Mortuary in Maiden is serving the Dagenhart Family.
Dr. William C. Self, 90, of Wilmington, passed away suddenly Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at his home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.andrewsmortuary.com.

After tying their game with Tampa Bay, the Carolina Panthers gave up 13 unanswered points to lose the home-opener, 20-7.
Panthers quarterback Matt Moore connected with Steve Smith on a 37-yard scoring pass play with 11:43 left in the second quarter. The scored tied the game at 7, but it was the only time the Panthers crossed the goal line.

When Katie Keisler cuts coupons, she cuts costs.
"It basically just started out as just me trying to save money," said Keisler, 22, of Newton. "I was able to get free items, not just cheap, but free."
Keisler's husband was laid off from his job, and Keisler wanted a way to save money without sacrificing community service and charitable giving.
"I thought, 'We need to still be charitable, but how can we do this?'" Keisler said.
A Bunker Hill High School student suffered internal injuries Friday after being run over by a car.
Caleb Hedrick, 15, of Claremont, was riding on the hood of a Toyota Corolla with his cousin Dustin Shook, 16, of Claremont, when the driver stopped suddenly, causing Hedrick to fall off the car, according to witnesses.
Catawba County residents take action and plan two political events to meet candidates running for area offices.
Jennifer Bandy, along with her relatives and other residents, planned two events for the public to meet candidates in an effort to learn more about the people who want to represent the community in various offices.
The Shuford YMCA's Sparkman Community Center became a bargain barn Friday and Saturday to raise money for community programming.
The Adrian L. Shuford Jr. YMCA in Conover held a two-day community yard sale and fundraiser, complete with drastically reduced prices on a wide range of donated items.
Raymond Norman Knight, 69, of Hickory, passed away Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at Brian Center Hickory-East. A memorial service will be held at Brian Center Hickory-East on Monday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. Pastor Rick Browning and Pastor Rick Murphy will officiate.
Deborah Jean Nicholson, 62, of Catawba, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The St. Stephens Indians are optimistic they can find their first win in 2010 on Friday when they host non-conference foe Maiden. Indians head coach Fred Whalen is also “cautiously optimistic” starting quarterback, Tanner Miller, will be on the field for the first time this season.
Miller, who has been sidelined with a back injury since the start of practice, is feeling better and could be a game-time decision for the Indians.
Junius Glenn “Coon” Carpenter, 92, of Claremont, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. The Carpenter family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Conover.
