A Hickory man who allegedly raped his girlfriend and carved the word “mine” into her abdomen is in jail Monday under a $1 million secured bond.
Keith Alan Campbell, 41, is in Catawba County jail facing charges of first degree rape, first degree kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, communicating threats and assault on a female. Campbell and the victim were arguing about 11:30 p.m. Friday at the home they shared at 18th Street NE in Hickory. “She was trying to end the relationship,” said Hickory Police Sgt. Brett Porter.

It only takes a moment to pin on an Eagle Scout badge, but the skills and experience needed to achieve the badge last a lifetime. No one knows the power of achieving the rank of Eagle Scout more than Conover Mayor Lee Moritz Jr. “There is hardly a day that goes by still today that I don’t use a skill I learned in Scouting,” Moritz said. Moritz is one of the 2 percent of Boy Scouts who earn their Eagle Scout badge.

It’s a dirty job, but someone has to it.
That’s the mindset of William Dobson, of Newton, and Mark Pennell, of Conover, owners of D&P Bio-Haz crime scene and trauma clean-up company. “It’s a field that’s untouched. We’re giving back to the community in a way that’s usually unheard of,” said Pennell, the company’s vice president. Through their company, Dobson and Pennell want to raise awareness in the community that no one has to deal with death alone.
